On Friday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $100,000 Fred Cappy Caposella Stakes. The six-furlong contest, run on the inner dirt track, has drawn a field of five newly turned three-year-old colts and geldings.
Majestic Affair has been installed as the morning line favorite at 7-5 for trainer Chad Brown. A chestnut gelded son of Majesticperfection, he has won two of his four career starts and will be trying to earn the first stakes win of his career after a runner-up effort last time out in the James F. Lewis III Stakes. The winner of that race has already come back to win, flattering his performance. Kendrick Carmouche will remain aboard and they will break from post three.
Joe Franklin making stakes debut after two wins
Second choice at 2-1 on the morning line is Joe Franklin for trainer Kelly Breen. After a runner-up finish in his debut in September, he has won his last two starts as the heavy favorite in both. The front-running son of Bernstein will be making his stakes debut and has been training forwardly since his last victory. Chuck Lopez, aboard for two of his three starts, has retained the mount and they will break from the rail.
Ship Distributor going for two wins in a row
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-2 is Ship Distributor for trainer Rick Violette, Jr. A bay son of Sky Mesa, he was purchased for $45,000 as a yearling. He made his career debut a winning one at Aqueduct in November with an upset victory at odds of 11-1 after leading at every call, ultimately winning by 5 ¼ lengths. He will face winners for the first time under jockey Jose Ortiz from post position two.
