On Saturday at Gulfstream Park West, the Florida breeding program will be showcased in Sunshine Million Preview Day. The $100,000 Millions Turf Preview has drawn a field of eight Florida-bred horses to compete in the mile and a sixteenth turf race.
Bad Debt has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite for trainer Michael Trombetta. Last year, the gelded son of Grand Reward won the Millions Turf Preview and went on to finish third in the Sunshine Millions Turf. The seven-year-old is winless from eight starts this year and was last seen finishing second against allowance company. He is going for the fifteenth win of his career and will have Paco Lopez in the irons from the outside post.
E B Ryder one of two fillies facing the boys
E B Ryder, one of two fillies taking on male rivals, is second choice at 3-1 on the morning line for Martin Wolfson. A four-year-old daughter of Bluegrass Cat, the bay filly was second in the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf last year and has won one of her six outings this season. She was last seen finishing seventh in the Wasted Tears Stakes and will get a rider change to Edgard Zayas. The pair is scheduled to break from post position three.
Breitling Flyer going for first stakes win
Also in the field and breaking from the rail at odds of 5-1 is Breitling Flyer. Trained by Lisa Guerrero, the sophomore son of Ghostzapper was third in the Showing Up Stakes last time out and has won two of his fifteen starts. He has been on the board in four of his ten starts this year and is trying to earn the first stakes win of his career. Leandro Goncalves, aboard last time out, has retained the mount. He has never won beyond five-furlongs.
