$100,000 New York Stallion Series Draws Compact Field of Five
On Sunday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $100,000 New York Stallion Series Stakes. Restricted to two-year-old fillies bred in New York or sired by New York stallions, the six furlong race has drawn a field of five.
Behrnik’s Bank has been tabbed as the heavy favorite in the compact field at odds of 2-5 for trainer Peter Kazamias who also owns the dark bay filly. A daughter of Bank Heist, she is out of a stakes placed mare and is undefeated from two starts. After breaking her maiden in her debut at Penn National, she wheeled back to win the Blue Mountain Juvenile Fillies Stakes in her next start. Jose Ortiz will be aboard and they will break from post position four.
Frosty Margarita looking for second straight stakes win
Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 is Frosty Margarita for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. A dark bay daughter of Frost Giant owned and bred by Gabrielle Farm, she has been on the board in all five starts and has two victories. She broke through and earned her first black type win last time out in the Key Cents Stakes and will try to make it two in a row with Irad Ortiz, Jr. aboard from the outside post.
Taken by Surprise needs to make a big step forward
Also in the field at morning line odds of 12-1 is longshot Taken by Surprise for trainer Todd Pletcher. A homebred for Mike Repole, the bay daughter of Giant Surprise has one win from four starts. After breaking her maiden in her third start after two average outings, she finished seventh in the Key Cents Stakes in her first try against winners. Manuel Franco will be aboard from post position two.
