$110,000 Glass Slipper Pits Top Claiming Mares
The $110,000 Glass Slipper is another stellar betting race on the December 5 Claiming Crown card at Gulfstream Park, as a field of 13 fillies and mares will contest the one mile event on the main track.
Aix En Provence is the 3/1 morning line favorite for trainer Joseph Orseno as she prepares to make her first start since a second-place effort October 17 in the Maryland Millions Distaff at Laurel Park. Notably, that effort – at seven furlongs - was one of the seven year-old mare’s few attempts beyond six furlongs. Bettors taking a cautious approach to Aix En Provence will note the extended distance of the Glass Slipper along with the layoff and her lack of familiarity with the Gulfstream surface.
Horse for course looks dangerous
BL’s Wagon (7/2) is a Gulfstream specialist (3 wins in 5 career starts) and has excelled at the distance (5 for 10 lifetime). The Larry Pilotti trainee returned from a 14-week layoff in her last start to run third in a six furlong optional claimer at Gulfstream. That effort was perhaps better than it looked with the layoff taken into consideration along with the distance of the race being shorter than ideal. Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado retains the mount for the fourth consecutive start.
Moonshine Promise goes for new barn
Moonshine Promise (6/1) is an intriguing item with Peter Walder taking over the training duties from Anthony Rini. Walder connects at 26% with newcomers to his barn and hires a top pilot in Javier Castellano. Moonshine promise finished a troubled third last out at Thistle Downs, and has been in excellent form her last four races.
