On Saturday at Santa Anita, the track will host the 77th edition of the $250,000 San Carlos Stakes. A Grade 2 event held at seven-furlongs on the main track, it has attracted a field of nine colts and geldings.

Chitu, one of two horses for trainer Bob Baffert, has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1. A four-year-old son of Henny Hughes purchased for $300,000 as a yearling, he has won four of his seven career starts. He was last seen finishing third in the Malibu Stakes (G1) in December behind Shared Belief and Conquest Two Step, both of whom came back to win next out. Martin Garcia will be aboard and they will break from the rail.

Consistent Conquest Two Step going for two in a row

Second choice at 5-2 on the morning line is Conquest Two Step for trainer Mark Casse. Purchased for $420,000 as a yearling by Conquest Stables, the dark bay son of Two Step Salsa has been on the board in nine of his ten starts and has three victories. He earned the first graded stakes win of his career last time out in the Palos Verdes (G2). Regular rider Joe Talamo will be in the irons from post position four.

Kobe's Back returning off of a layoff

Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Kobe’s Back who will be making his first start for trainer Peter Eurton. A four-year-old son of Flatter who cost $480,000 as a yearling, he has won two of his nine career starts, both of which came against stakes competition. He has been on the shelf since a fifth-place finish in the Bing Crosby (G1) at Del Mar and will have Gary Stevens aboard from post five.
