On Thursday at Keeneland, the featured race is the $100,000 Sycamore Stakes. Carded at a mile and a half on turf, the Grade 3 event has drawn a field of eleven colts and geldings.
Da Big Hoss has been tabbed as the morning line favorite in the competitive field at odds of 2-1 for trainer Michael Maker. A four-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid, he has been on the board in ten of his thirteen starts and is a seven-time career winner. Last time out, he earned his fourth consecutive victory and stepped up in class successfully to win his first graded stakes in the Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes (G3). Joe Rocco, Jr. will be back aboard from the rail.
Holiday Star trying to defend Sycamore Stakes title
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Holiday Star, one of two horses in the race for trainer Graham Motion. A five-year-old son of Harlan’s Holiday bred and owned by George Strawbridge, Jr.’s Augustin Stables, he has five wins from eighteen starts and won this race last year in what was his first graded stakes victory. He was second in the John’s Call Stakes at Saratoga last time out and will have Edgar Prado in the irons from post position eight.
Aldous Snow aiming to return to form
Also in the field at morning line odds of 10-1 is Aldous Snow for trainer Malcolm Pierce. A six-year-old gelded son of Theatrical (IRE), the Sam-Son farm homebred is a five-time career winner and a multiple graded stakes winner. After winning the Singspiel Stakes (G3) at Woodbine for the second consecutive year in July, he has been off the board in his last two starts against graded stakes competition. Malcolm Pierce will be aboard and they will break from post four.
