On Friday at Churchill Downs, the track will host the $400,000 Alysheba Stakes. Scheduled to be run at a mile and a sixteenth on the main track, the Grade 2 event has drawn a field of ten colts and geldings.
Eagle tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 7-2 for trainer Al Stall, Jr. A homebred for W.S. Farish, the chestnut son of Candy Ride (ARG) has been on the board in eleven of his thirteen starts and is trying to earn his seventh career victory. He has one win from four starts this year and was last seen winning the Ben Ali Stakes (G3) as the favorite at Keeneland. Brian Hernandez, Jr. will be back aboard and they will break from post position four.
Noble Bird rounding into form off layoff
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Noble Bird for trainer Mark Casse. A five-year-old son of Birdstone, he has won four of his thirteen starts and will be making his third start since going to the sidelines last summer. He showed significant improvement last time out and was second behind Eagle after setting the pace. Julian Leparoux will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Top Billing trying for breakthrough win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 10-1 is longshot Top Billing for trainer Claude McGaughey, III. A five-year-old son of Curlin, he has won three of his eleven starts and will be trying for the first stakes win of his career. He is coming out of a win against optional claiming competition at Keeneland and has been training well since then. Joe Bravo will be in the irons from post position seven.
