Field of Eight State-Breds in the $100,000 Evan Shipman Stakes
On Thursday at Saratoga, the 33rd running of the $100,000 Evan Shipman Stakes has drawn a field of eight New York-bred colts and geldings. The race will be contested at a mile and an eighth on the main track.
Headlining the field as the 9-5 morning line favorite is Big Business, a six-year-old gelded son of Eddington trained by David Jacobson and owned by Gary Barber. Cornelio Velasquez will be back in the irons after Javier Castellano was the pilot for a win against optional claiming company in his last start. The minor stakes winner has ten wins from 26 starts and over half a million dollars in earnings and will break from the outside post in the field of eight.
Second start of the year for Escapefromreality
Also in the field is Escapefromreality, tabbed at 3-1 on the morning line for his second start of the year. Javier Castellano will be aboard the four-year-old gelded son of Read the Footnotes for Dominick Schettino. As a three-year-old, he won the Albany Stakes at Saratoga and has been first or second in six of his seven lifetime starters. Escapefromreality will break from post position six.
Fox Rules goes for fourth straight
Breaking from the inside post is Fox Rules, a longshot at 8-1 for Anthony Ferraro. The five-year-old gelded son of Roman Ruler is out of the popular New York-bred mare Shesastonecoldfox and has nine lifetime victories. Pedro Rodriguez will be aboard the multiple stakes winner who was last seen earning his third consecutive victory by a nose in the Genesee Valley Breeders’ Stakes at Finger Lakes.
