The royally-bred Honor Code headlines the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 3-1 for trainer Claude McGaughey, III. A four-year-old son of A.P. Indy, he has won five of his eight starts and has been on the board a total of seven times. Last time out, he turned in a visually impressive effort to win the Metropolitan Mile (G1) by 3 ¾ lengths in his trademark off the pace style. Regular rider Javier Castellano will be in the irons and they will break from the rail.
Tonalist looking for a breakthrough victory
Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is Tonalist for trainer Christophe Clement. A four-year-old son of Tapit, he has won five of his twelve starts including the 2014 running of the Belmont Stakes (G1). He won the Westchester Stakes (G3) in his first start of the year and has subsequently finished second in both recent starts, most recently in the Suburban Handicap (G2). John Velazquez will be aboard and they will break from post two.
Moreno trying to return to winning form
Also in the field and a longshot at 12-1 on the morning line is Moreno, last year’s winner of the Whitney Stakes (G1). Trained by Eric Guillot, he is a four-time career winner and has been on the board in four of his five starts this year with one victory. He is trying to rebound after an eighth-place finish in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita (G1) and has been training at Los Alamitos since then. Cornelio Velasquez will be aboard from post position five.
