Jockey Club Gold Cup: Dynamic One Is Ready for Grade 1 Glory

Jockey Club Gold Cup: Dynamic One Is Ready for Grade 1 Glory

Category : News - Fri 02/09/2022 - 07:35 EDT

The most important older-horse dirt race of the Saratoga meet is coming up on Saturday, September 3: the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1)! The race offers a purse of $1 million, and the winner of the race also earns an expenses-paid berth to the Breeders’ Cup Classic. With such rich spoils, the race draws a field of top dirt route horses every year.

The 2022 edition of the Jockey Club Gold Cup drew a field of eight, and with no horse looming high above the field, it should be one of the top betting races of the Spa’s final weekend! Olympiad, who won five in a row earlier this year, attempts to get back on track after losing the Whitney (G1). Dynamic One will try to build on his gutsy Suburban (G2) victory. But six other horses are all in with a chance!

Read on to find out the best horses to bet on and the best places to bet on the Jockey Club Gold Cup in California.

Jockey Club Gold Cup Handicapping

Now that you have your online betting account set up and ready go ahead and meet the top contenders in the 2022 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Saratoga.

Jockey Club Gold Cup Leading Players

The best bet in the 2022 Jockey Club Gold Cup is Dynamic One. Though he did not break through among the top of his three-year-old crop last year, he is new and improved at four. He has made a smart and gradual improvement, ran his best race yet in the Suburban last out, and kept on so gamely to win by a nose at the same 1 ¼-mile distance as the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Look for a good ride from Irad Ortiz and another strong effort.

Dynamic One outslugged First Captain to win by a nose in the Suburban, and First Captain has some appeal in this spot as well. It was a sharper step up for him, leaving more chances for him to bounce. But, assuming he holds his form, he is a horse who has moved forward as the distances get longer, and it probably says something that Luis Saez stuck with him instead of Americanrevolution.

There is good reason to tread lightly with both of the shortest prices on the morning line. Olympiad won five straight but ran below par last out in the Whitney (G1). If he bounces back, he can find the frame, but there is some chance that either his form is tailed off or he doesn’t love Saratoga. Americanrevolution is a one-turn Grade 1 winner, but this trip may test his stamina.

Untreated, Dynamic One and Americanrevolution’s stablemate in the Todd Pletcher barn ran a close third in the Suburban. This lightly-raced horse can improve in his second try over the distance, and his draw outside of Tax and Olympiad gives him a good chance at a stalking trip. He needs his best, but he is going the right way.

Keepmeinmind, the fourth-stringer in that strong Pletcher contingent, takes a huge step up in class after winning a first-level allowance last out. But, that victory did come at the Spa. And, his pedigree suggests that trying this longer distance once again (after a couple of late-clunking Triple Crown race tries at three) may produce better results. If the pace gets hot, he will be coming.
