Masochistic Looks to Maintain Dominance in Bing Crosby
Masochistic leads five rivals as the 6/5 morning line favorite for trainer Ron Ellis after an ultra-impressive display in the Grade 1 Triple Bend Stakes June 27 at Santa Anita. The five year-old gelded son of Sought After set a fast pace and had plenty left in the tank while drawing away for a 3 1/2-length victory. That performance came two and a half months after Masochistic’s Grade 2 win in the Kona Gold Stakes. Undefeated in three starts this year, Masochistic is clearly the horse to beat, but he will have to prove his ability to handle the new dirt surface at Del Mar that has proven to be deep and challenging.
Hard to like Appealing Tale on top
Appealing Tale (3/1) finished second behind Masochistic in the Triple Bend, but the five year-old gelding does not win often. With just 4 victories in 22 career starts, Appealing Tale is difficult to endorse for win honors, but looks probable in the lower rung of the exotics. Jockey Joe Talamo will take the call for trainer Peter Miller who is off to a good start so far at the meeting after capturing the 2014 training title.
Disntictiv Passion formidable with "A" game
Distintiv Passion (4/1) won the Grade 3 Los Angeles Stakes May 25 for trainer Jeff Bonde, and is capable of challenging if ready to fire his best race. The Bing Crosby will be just his third start since March 28.
