OTB BC Filly And Mare Sprint
The 2013 Breeders’ Cup World Championships are all set to go this weekend, with five races to be run on Friday, and nine more on the card for Saturday at Santa Anita Racetrack. Going into the gate for the third of Saturday’s races will be a dozen three-year-old and up fillies and mares racing for a $1,000,000 purse in the Filly and Mare Sprint covering seven furlongs on the dirt track. The contenders include the defending champ, Groupie Doll, who took the race last year by a comfortable 4 1/2 lengths.
Groupie Doll has been beatable this year
Off that win, and a lifetime record of 10 wins and 18 in-the-money finishes in 20 starts, Groupie Doll has been installed as the obvious morning line favorite at 5-2. However, in three races in 2013, she has only won once, and finished third in two others, and this may be one of the Breeders’ Cup races most likely to provide an upset. Also in the field is Judy The Beauty (6-1) who most recently won the Grade II Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland ahead of Groupie Doll.
Dance to Bristol looking for win number eight
Also in the field is Dance To Bristol 5-1), who ran off seven straight wins this summer, including the Grade I Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga two starts back, although she was beaten five lengths in her last start to Cluster of Stars, who is not in the Breeders’ Cup field. Second place by only a head in the Ballerina went to Book Review (6-1), her third second place finish in four graded-stakes events this year, to go along with a win in the Grade II A Gleam Handicap at Hollywood Park in July.
Post time for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint is 1:21 PM PDT
