On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the track will host the $200,000 Orchid Stakes. Restricted to fillies and mares, the Grade 3 event will be contested at a mile and three-eighths on the turf and has attracted a field of nine.
Photo Call (IRE) tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for trainer Todd Pletcher. A five-year-old daughter of Galileo (IRE), she has been on the board in ten of her fifteen starts and is a four-time winner. She was a multiple graded stakes winner last year and is trying to improve off of a fourth-place finish in the Endeavor Stakes (G3) last time out. Javier Castellano will be aboard and they will break from post position four.
Suffused (GB) making first U.S. start
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Suffused (GB), one of two fillies in the race for trainer Bill Mott. Bred and owned by Juddmonte Farms, the chestnut filly is a four-year-old daughter of Champs Elysees (GB) and has won three of her eight starts in her native Great Britain. She has been training steadily for her stateside debut and will break from post three under jockey Jose Lezcano.
Maximova trying to improve recent form
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Maximova for trainer Christophe Clement who will also saddle Crisolles (FR). A six-year-old daughter of Danehill Dancer (IRE), she has won four of her eighteen starts and is trying to earn her first graded stakes win. She was fourth in a minor stakes race at Gulfstream Park last time out and will have Joe Bravo aboard from post position six.
