Princess of Sylmar Looms Large in Delaware Cap
Multiple grade one winner Princess of Sylmar headlines the $750,000 Grade I Delaware Handicap July 12 at Delaware Park.
The mile and a quarter race draws a small, but talented group of six fillies and mares, but the Princess is strictly the one to beat at even money on the morning line. After winning three grade one stakes events as a three year-old, Princess of Sylmar returned in April to take the Cat Cay Stakes at Aqueduct before most recently finishing second against a star-studded field in the Ogden Phipps Stakes at Belmont. She has excelled at the distance including a win in the Grade I Alabama Stakes last year.
Molly Morgan takes her show on the road
At 3/1 on the morning line Molly Morgan looks to be rounding into the best form of her career for trainer Dale Romans. In her last two starts the five year-old Ghostzapper mare captured the Grade II Fleur de Lis and ran second in the Grade I La Troienne Stakes. Both races were run at Churchill Downs however, while Molly Morgan has not fared as well away from the Louisville track where she is stabled.
Gamay Noir is the horse for course
Trainer Kenny McPeek’s charge, Flashy American, is the logical third choice at 7/2 after running second to Molly Morgan in the Fleur de Lis. Her chances improve if the pace scenario is faster than expected through the early fractions of the race. Gamay Noir (10/1 ML) is the horse-for-course after winning the Grade III Obeah Stakes June 14 at Delaware.
