With a field of twelve in place, the Louisiana Lassie for two year-old fillies might be the best betting race of the December 13 Louisiana Day Champions card at Fair Grounds.
Vivian Da Bling will break from the rail as the 5/2 morning line favorite for trainer William Bret Calhoun. The daughter of Too Much Bling was soundly defeated last out in the Delta Princess Stakes, but gets back to sprinting in the six furlong Lassie. Vivian Da Bling has run in four straight stakes races since breaking her maiden at Lone Star in June, winning two and running off the board in two tries versus graded company. She should break sharply for the lead under jockey Brian Hernandez and will be tough to handle on the lead.
Wind Chill Factor ready to roll
Wind Chill Factor (9/2) won the Louisiana Jewell in her last start, November 22 at Delta Downs. So far, she has looked the consummate professional in winning two of her three career starts. The Gary Scherer trainee is already well-traveled, making each start at a different race track – Fair Grounds will be her fourth venue in as many starts. Breaking from the far outside post (12), Wind Chill Factor should be able to employ her patient stalk and pounce style under jockey Willie Martinez, but the pair will need to avoid a wide trip.
Jumelaka gets first-time juice
Jumelaka (4/1) is an interesting item for trainer Kenny McPeek, adding Lasix for the first time after finishing second by a head at Aqueduct in a $50,000 allowance event.
