On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the stakes action will continue with the $100,000 El Prado Stakes. Scheduled to be run at seven and a half furlongs on the turf, the stakes race has drawn a field of eleven colts and geldings with one additional entered for the main track only.
War Correspondent tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 3-1 for trainer Christophe Clement. A five-year-old son of War Front, he is a full brother to Grade 1 winning millionaire Declaration of War and has been on the board in all eight of his starts. A four-time winner, he earned his first graded stakes win in the Appleton Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream in March and has been on the bench since that race. He has been training steadily and will have John Velazquez aboard from the outside post.
Tower of Texas getting a break in class
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Tower of Texas for trainer Roger Attfield. Bred in Ontario, the four-year-old son of Street Sense has been on the board in eleven of his fifteen starts and is a four-time winner. A graded stakes winner in Canada, he is trying to rebound after finishing seventh in the Woodbine Mile (G1) and will get a slight break in class. Julian Leparoux will be in the irons and they will break from post five.
Reporting Star trying to regain form
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Reporting Star for trainer Pat Parente. A five-year-old son of Circular Quay, the chestnut gelding is a five-time winner and earned his first graded stakes victory in August in the Play the King Stakes (G2). He is trying to move forward after finishing fourth in the Millions Turf Preview Stakes at Gulfstream Park West last time out and will have jockey Miguel Vasquez aboard from post ten.
