On Friday at Belmont Park, a wide open field of ten fillies and mares are scheduled to compete in the $100,000 Perfect Sting Stakes with one filly entered as main track only eligible. The one mile turf event will be contested over Belmont’s Widener Turf Course.
The slight morning line favorite at 5-2 is Waterway Run, a four-year-old daughter of Arch trained by Chad Brown. Jose Lezcano has been aboard for all four of her United States starts after a sixth place finish in the Just a Game (G1) in June. The multiple graded stakes winning filly will break from post position six.
French filly will try to turn the tables on Waterway Run
Second choice on the morning line at 3-1 is Orion Moon (FR), a French-bred filly trained by Belmont Stakes winning trainer Christophe Clement. The five-year-old daughter of German stallion Manduro (GER) will try to avenge a narrow loss to Waterway Run in the Beaugay Stakes (G3) in her most recent start in which she was denied her first stakes win by a neck. Regular rider Junior Alvarado will be aboard.
Graham Motion aims for upset with Joy
Graham Motion will saddle longshot Joy, tabbed at odds of 20-1 on the morning line. The four-year-old daughter of Pure Prize is a minor stakes winner but has yet to hit the board from two starts this year. She was compromised by a stumble at the start of her last race, an optional claiming race at Pimlico, and wound up fifth, beaten two lengths. Irad Ortiz, Jr. will be in the irons for the first time.
