Multiple grade one winner Princess of Sylmar headlines the $750,000 Grade I Delaware Handicap July 12 at Delaware Park.

The top three-year-old turf horses in the country will prep for the prestigious Secretariat Stakes (G1) on Saturday in the $200,000 American Derby (G3) at Arlington Park. Scheduled to be run at a mile and three-sixteenths on the grass, the race has drawn a field of ten.

Shared Belief delivered with style in the inaugural running of the $500,000 Los Alamitos Derby, winning the Grade 2 event by an effortless 4 ½ lengths and completing the mile and an eighth in 1:47. In doing so, Shared Belief established a track record for the first Thoroughbred meet held in decades to earn his third graded stakes victory.

A new day dawns Saturday, July 5th when Los Alamitos Race Course will host the first graded stakes event in its history for thoroughbreds with the $500,000 mile and an eighth Grade II Los Alamitos Derby.

On Friday at Belmont Park, a wide open field of ten fillies and mares are scheduled to compete in the $100,000 Perfect Sting Stakes with one filly entered as main track only eligible. The one mile turf event will be contested over Belmont's Widener Turf Course.

Long distance turf horses will be featured on Sunday at Santa Anita in the 75th running of the San Juan Capistrano Handicap, a Grade 2 event with a purse of $200,000. The prestigious race has drawn a competitive field of nine in the one and three-forth of a mile contest.

A field of twelve hard-knocking older horses are scheduled to compete in Wednesday's $50,000 Hockessin Stakes at Delaware Park which is to be run at six furlongs on the main track. High percentage trainer David Jacobson will saddle the two of the top choices.

With Wise Dan on the sidelines recovering from colic surgery, the turf mile division has gotten temporarily more wide open. Though Obviously has gotten trounced both times he and Wise Dan have met over his home track, Santa Anita, he looks formidable in the $400,000 Shoemaker Mile (G1) this weekend.
